Mom's day was great, took her to lunch, gave her a card, thank god she liked her gift.
Then as the week progressed, I heard a sound in the distance. It was the sound of clanging bells, off key dissonant musical notes, yelling, hooting, hollering and the faint sound of scrambling feet. What on earth is causing this jumble of noise.
The next day the noise was louder, as if it was closer, but you could still tell it was in the distance. Added to this noise was the faint hint of something smelly, like bad meat. This continued into the following day, but now along with all the other noises was the distinct sound of something being hit, like the old days of beating the dirt out of a carpet.
This morning I awoke to the same noises I've heard all week, only now they were even louder. The faint smell of something smelly was now overpowering and definitely bad meat. As I poured my 1st cup of coffee I wondered what was causing this symphony of noises and smells. Was I caught in some type of nightmare or was Satan himself approaching.
The proximity to Mother's Day meant something. Then in a moment of clarity it came to me. The noise I was hearing was not just of one thing. It was a combination of sounds, as I listened I finally realized what they were. It was a Chinese Fire Drill and several people beating a dead horse. This also explained the bad meat smell.
I jumped up, spilling my coffee, only to slip and fall, but still able to see the calendar. I was right, the date meant everything and as I added it all together it could be one thing and one thing only.
The Bonney Eagle Car Show.

Mothers Day
Why is it there is no show on Moms Day. Why is it that Dads Day has Car Shows and Cruise Ins and Adult Beverages but Mom gets shafted with a nice card and dinner. Mom deserves a car show with all the frills and faux marble that she could ask for.
Dad worked hard all his life but he didn't give birth to us. Mom probably thought she was passing a 54 Pontiac through her loins while giving birth to the likes of you and me. Nice Card.
She probably felt like she was run over by a Cadillac of the 60's about the time that Officer Numbnuts brought you home after breaking windows in the vacant house 2 streets over. Where Would You Like To Eat.
Dad never cooked anything that involved a pot or a pan, just meat on the grill. Yet Mom was the one that told you that everything would be fine while you wore that Buick grill on your teeth for what seemed like an eternity. What Would Like For An Appetizer.
Pop would give you something to cry about and Mom would soothe your pain. She washed your clothes and ironed your shirts. The old man would smack your ass and wash the car. She made you lunch and helped with your homework Dad would fart and snore during your favorite show on evening TV. Ordering Wine Or Would You Like Something From The Bar.
He gets a Car Show not Mom. He takes credit for what you have become only if you've become what he wanted you too. She didn't push you in any specific direction but loves for what you are anyway. Go Ahead Order Anything You Want Ma.
Mom gets flowers and a card, then dinner. She needs a Car Show. She deserves a Car Show.
Besides the $5.00 entry fee and the $25.00 Cheap Ass Trophy would be cheaper than the flowers the card and the dinner.
Love Ya Ma!

Zoiks and Away
Ring a bell? Heard that expression before? Think on it, it'll come to you.
So today the Mayhem known as the "Season" began. Medomak Valley High School Cruisin to Graduation Car Show was today and yes it was, mayhem that is.
500lbs. of shit packed into a 300lb. receptacle is called a Blivet, 500 cars packed into 300 car parking area is called Mayhem. But controlled Mayhem, edging on the border of clusterfuck but still mayhem and we enjoyed every minute, didn't we. It was great seeing those happy faces that are finally getting out from a mild but long winter. It was nice to see all the changes made over the winter to the vehicles or the lack thereof.
Registration was a mess, but did we care, probably not. They ran out of room, but did we squawk about it, not that I heard anyway. What I felt was the line from "Jaws" where the sheriff makes the statement,"You're gonna need a bigger boat". Yep there gonna need a bigger playground or possibly become a show like Bonney Eagle.
I can't tell you who got the $25.00 Dollar Cheap Ass Trophy or even who didn't. I left at about noon, not in a huff or over some bullshit political scenario played out in one of my detractors tiny little brains, but because there was another place to go.
Bentley's Saloon in Arundel packed 200 cars and hot rods of all shapes and sizes into a space meant to hold motorcycles of about the same number and they served food and adult beverages with a real live band.
So with an early start, good travels, fine friends and a tank full of fuel, it was exactly the start of a very fine season that I needed.

Updates
OK Boys and Girls here is an update for you. Certain websites are professionally built and maintained, others not so much. Be mindful of what your reading, as it could be an Old Testament Cruise Night that Moses attended. Makes me wonder about the DJ. Makes me wonder about his wonderful assistant screeching 50/50 in ancient Hebrew.
So if your looking at the details and the date is wrong and the stuff just don't fit right, tell the people involved in keeping that shit straight, that either fix it or shut it down.
I just came from a site that has enough dust and debris still posted from years gone by that it may be eligible for FEMA relief funds. Like there ain't been no habitation there in a year at least.
Another has cruise nights listed that are no longer in existence, along with a vehicle for sale that's been sold 3 times since being posted a couple of years ago.
Information is our greatest tool for enjoying the season and the wrong info can really piss you off and there is nothing more dangerous than an enthusiast with a car or truck, a bad attitude and this blog.

Tick Tick Tick
So here we are, 6 days away from the glorious Car Show Season and the mad rush of all the last minute mayhem. The phone is ringing with the same "I need it yesterday" pleas. The ones that were smart got it done early. The ones that are calling are, shall we say, IQ challenged. I only laugh at the "wait till the last minute" crew, not real belly laughs but closer to an evil little snicker.
Medomak is the first show but there is also some stuff going on before that. Some type of show swap meet in Oxford at the high school and an ever important NSRA Appreciation Day in Auburn, with the free lunch sign hanging for NSRA Members and a small donation jar out for the ones that think they are getting a free lunch.
Then if your up for it and really could give a shit about the $25.00 Cheap Ass Trophy you can hit the highway from Waldoboro and hit Bentley's Saloon in Arundel for their first Cruise/Show of the season which starts at 3PM and goes til' 6 or so.
As in the days of ancient Rome, sound the trumpets, let loose the doves and let the games begin.
Or as some see it, bring out the Christians, let loose the lions and make a sacrifice to the gods.
It's going to be a great season.
