A Show?

Mom's day was great, took her to lunch, gave her a card, thank god she liked her gift.

Then as the week progressed, I heard a sound in the distance. It was the sound of clanging bells, off key dissonant musical notes, yelling, hooting, hollering and the faint sound of scrambling feet. What on earth is causing this jumble of noise.

The next day the noise was louder, as if it was closer, but you could still tell it was in the distance. Added to this noise was the faint hint of something smelly, like bad meat. This continued into the following day, but now along with all the other noises was the distinct sound of something being hit, like the old days of beating the dirt out of a carpet.

This morning I awoke to the same noises I've heard all week, only now they were even louder. The faint smell of something smelly was now overpowering and definitely bad meat. As I poured my 1st cup of coffee I wondered what was causing this symphony of noises and smells. Was I caught in some type of nightmare or was Satan himself approaching.

The proximity to Mother's Day meant something. Then in a moment of clarity it came to me. The noise I was hearing was not just of one thing. It was a combination of sounds, as I listened I finally realized what they were. It was a Chinese Fire Drill and several people beating a dead horse. This also explained the bad meat smell.

I jumped up, spilling my coffee, only to slip and fall, but still able to see the calendar. I was right, the date meant everything and as I added it all together it could be one thing and one thing only.
