Shuffle the Deck

In a slick move that warrants an "atta boy" or in this case, "girl" the Raymond School Show has moved it's date to August 12th. In it's attempt to put on a show that raises money for scholarship funding they saw early that the big bad wolf was coming to visit. They moved the date, smart. The big bad wolf in this case is the Litchfield Fire Department Show, which moved it's date for reasons unknown at this time.

Maybe they saw that Togus moving to June as their opportunity to take the date. Whatever the reason you should always use your turn signal before making the turn, look both ways before crossing the street, sharpen your pencil before the test, put on clean underwear before going out and last but not least, put on a condom before trying to have sex with a stranger.

Bullying a Bully

Not really but it sounded good.

Wednesday morning was spent in my favorite city, Bugusta. Spent with some minions who wear guns and badges and have authority over shit they know nothing about. Yes, you are correct in assuming I'm talking about our State Police and the Dept. of Public Safety. Which in itself could be construed as a bad day, but not this day.

Over the past couple of years a "conversation" has been ongoing between those that know and those that don't. The authorities are virtually clueless when it comes to our hobby and finally they have reached out to those that know our hobby. Having been chosen as one of those, I am amazed that over a year ago the conversation started and has taken this long to get to the 2nd part of that conversation.

The bright spot to our present administration and at times its like polishing a turd to find it, is the mandate of deregulation. That means less is better according to the minions. The Less part is dropping some bullshit from the "Hallowed Book of Pain and Suffering", otherwise known as the State Inspection Manual, that will take out non-safety related items and adjust some safety related items in our favor.

We are now in the process of tweaking it just a tad so that these changes are worded to our benefit and will take effect sometime this year. The art of clarification and speed reading is not the strongest suit in any political system but the process of translation from politispeak to English back to politispeak is really slow in our state with this little department called the Revisers Office. These guys could look at a spaghetti dinner and think its the new DOT plan for I-295. Don't hold your breath waiting for this plan to happen.

At the least they looked to the hobbyists for advice and took our opinions seriously. It could happen this year, but do we really want to poke the turd with our finger to hurry it along.

A Question of Posting Again

Back in March of 2010 it was stated here that the Road Scholars web site does not list cruise nights. After listening to 2 years of bitching, moaning & groaning, they have decided to list cruise nights.

You can find them under "Weekly Cruise Nights". That means "Weekly" not the once a year special or the monthly gatherings, those will be listed by date in the " New England Calendar of Events".

But the listing is only the day and location (town or city). Start and end dates are to varied and can change with the hosts attitude IE Roy's in Auburn which has shutdown weeks early 2 years in a row. If you go to a Cruise night that you are unfamiliar with you may want call or check with somebody, before striking out for East Bumfuck to attend Uncle Cleetus's Cruise Night and Pig Squeal.

If the weather calls for mud boots to keep your tootsies dry or a winter parka to keep your raisins warm its probably a little early or way to late in the season to think its still happening. In general cruise nights start in late May and end in September.

So lets use our heads for something other than a hat rack or a receptical for stupidity.

Now Hear This

As I was growing up... wait. let me rephrase that. As I was getting older, I heard many times , "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen". In the house I got older in...caught myself... it was always hot in the kitchen, so I learned to stand the heat. You'll see where this is going in a bit.

In writing this rag, from time to time I have inadvertently stepped on the wrong toes. I won't apologize for stating my opinion or for you taking it the wrong way. I will however state loudly that my comments calling a show (be it yours or someone else's ) a "Cheap Ass Trophy Show" is my referral to any show giving an award made of plastic tubing, faux marble and stick on brass plates or a fact simile thereof. As many of you know I try not to be part of the mix when it comes to voting. Thus my way of saying I came because I wanted to, not for an award given by a group of my peers or a panel of judges. So take it any way you want, its not personal.

Another term I used in the past and will again without remorse is "Trophy Whore". My term for anyone who gets all pissy and displays a childish tantrum if they don't get their $25.00 Cheap Ass Trophy. Sometimes it means an owner that only goes to car shows for the trophy and not just to be there to enjoy a relaxing day. Again don't take it personally.

So if you take this rag that seriously or take what I write that personally, the exit from the kitchen is on the left. It might get hotter as the season goes on.

The conflict mentioned in the previous post of Veterans vs. Benefit vs. Rod Run will probably sort itself out but I personally see it this way. The ones that feel its their duty as citizens of the U.S.A. to support our veterans stuck in a medical facility with little hope of returning to a normal way of life, will go to Togus. Those that want their weekly fix of awards and donate toward a scholarship fund that carries the name of someone that was taken from this earth before his time will go to that event. The other crowd will head to the fairgrounds, enjoy themselves, crack open an adult beverage and not give a shit either way. You can pretty much figure out where I'll be. But then again thats part of what I do and I almost have to be there. Being me really sucks at times.

OK, direction change. Did anyone notice at the recent All Clubs Social that an organization was missing and has never been in attendance in all the years that the A.C.S. has been doing its thing. I have been to everyone of the All Club Socials and have yet to hear from anyone from the Bath Parks & Recreation Dept or the Bath Knights of Columbus whose show is right across the street from the American Legion Post we were all sitting in. Can they not be bothered or are we just expected to attend. If I remember correctly last years registration forms came postage due. Think about it.

Thats it for this day.

Hello, Been Waiting Long

Ahem, excuse me for asking, but did you miss me.
Well to make a long story short Mrs. Calabash told me to get back to the blog.

Social Media is a plot akin to the LSD experiments done on mice just so we could watch them walk into walls and eat each other alive. Spend enough time on Facebook and you to can watch the gossip mongering recipe exchanging drama kings and queens whip themselves into   a frenzy like a young boy seeing his first issue of Hustler. Next page on that crap.

The upcoming Show Season could prove to be interesting to say the least. Here it is the 1st day of March and we are in conflict, he said, she said, bullshit spewing, I want my $25.00 Cheap Ass Trophy mode already.

Togus Veteran's BBQ  moved their date and are downsizing the event so that the Veterans can actually get out to attend rather than be overwhelmed by the massive crowds and guest speakers that could bore dead people. This move conflicts with another show which is a benefit show which in turn also conflicts with a Rod Run about 30 miles away. Can you feel the tension.

On a National Note we have a location closer to home for the Goodguys Rod & Custom Associations East Coast Nationals. The move takes the show from the Dutch County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck NY. to the Big E in Springfield MA. and that conflicts with any Father's Day festivities planned around here.

Which brings up another change. The Hodgman's Father's Fun Day  Cruise In will be happening on Fathers Day and guess what. There ain't going to be no Cheap Ass Trophies, just sit down take a load off relax in the sun have a nice day type of stuff.

That's about all for now.
As it always was and always will be, send a comment and it will get posted no matter what it says. No profanity (in excess) No name calling etc. Same Rules Apply.

Dam that felt good.
