A Report From... The Response Part 2

And more.

Hi Lorna,

First off let me just say that I know what it takes to put on a car show. My Husband and I have helped with many shows over the years. The time you take to get all that is needed and the rounding up of volunteers and getting sponsors, ect. is a very stressful and time consuming job. Than only to have people back out is even worse.

Yes many people were very happy with the dinner . I'm just saying what I had been told and heard myself and thought of it myself, when the dinner was going on.

I realize the Judging was done with the points system. That still does not explain how a car can win 1st place when the trunk or hood were not up and the driver or someone else attending the car were not even there to open them. It not only happened in my class but a couple of others.
Split Balloting is when you take all the classes and divide them up into groups. Say you have 26 classes A-Z. you take and split them into say A-G. H-M, N-S, T-Z. As people register you pass the ballots out so that everyone does not have the same ballot and there is hardly any chance of Block voting or the "Good old boy network" kicking in. Most people that I know really like it. We did it at the show we helped with and many others have done the same thing. If you do not have one there is a book about putting on a car show. You can go to www.hotkarz.com and ask Bill to send you one, he would be glad to. I do believe they are free and it tells you just about everything you need to know. Including the split ballot process.

As far as the Goody bags and Ribbons. There were many people that went to get one and were told that they were only for the Pre-registered participants. Nothing was ever said after that about extras that I know of. Ribbons may have been passed out but not everyone got one or even knew there were some.

As far as the entrance fee, Most shows only charge $5.00 Except for a couple and they charged $10.00 but you got a show t-shirt with your entry. Now though, it is considered a donation because our glorious government has decided that if you charge a "FEE" they are going to tax you for it. So now most shows ask for a "Donation". I had no beefs with the awards. I thought they were really unique. I liked them. In fact I got one. It is proudly displayed with the rest of my trophies.

I hope I have explained myself for you and helped you to understand a little more of what I was talking about. This is the First year I have had my Own car to enter, so I am learning things too. If you or someone else still have them and it is not to much trouble, could you get a copy of the judge sheet for my car and maybe get it to me, so I can learn what I need to improve. I would really appreciate it. I had the 1968 Black Mustang Convertible with the purple top, my number was 6. She has just come out of a 3 1/2 year restoration. She has only been on the road for 7 weeks. She is a Stock Matching Numbers Car, except for the purple. She has already in that short time gotten, 1 Best of Show, 1 Best Ford, 4 -1st places, 5- 2Nd's and a 3rd place.
In closing I just want to say I'm do not mean to offend anyone, I was only voicing what I had seen myself or heard from others. Again I know what goes into putting one of these on it's not easy and I also realize it is all Volunteer.
Thank-you for your time and your quick response.
