The Ossipee Valley Fair Car Show was our destination, as the Shriners have continuously told people it would get better and never followed through. After being told by several fellow enthusiasts that the Ossipee Show was a great show, I was mildly disappointed from the onset at how the show was run as some paid a $5.00 entry fee while others paid double that or more.
The size in past years neared several hundred, while today it was cramped with less than 200.
As I contemplated my little opening for the rag, the organizer (and that is singular) explained to several of us, the screw ups at the gate and lack of space. What it came down to was he was handed a bucket of shit, with a few stipulations, according to fees and space and this was his first year at the helm with little to no help.
That being said, I will say this. We had fun, the people were friendly and more than helpful. The bands that played went from dreadful to almost worth paying to go see. This only supplied us with more entertainment value as we are pro's at sarcasm. The food was the healthy overly greasy fair food that we all know and love.
All in all a good day. Would I go again next year. That would depend on what I hear about the Shriners/Kora Temple Show and if they actually did make the stated changes.

I was VERY taken back with the onset of the Shriners' show. All literature that we had said show cars could arrive at 6am. We arrived at 6:03am to a waiting line of about 6 vehicles. I hae enough time to downoad a game on my new mobil toy and play most of it before we moved (45 minutes later) NOT impressed. Nothing changed from the onset. We were asked and not told what class to reside in. Not much parking assistance after the 1st couple of cars in the class arrived. Class jumping, yes that happened as there again was no control. On the flip side: plenty of room, MANY smiles and pleasant folks. Will we attend again?? Yes as we have attended Ossipee several years in the past and would rather stay home than attend again so maybe it's the lesser of two evils... We had a good day, food a little pricey but good and fresh, potties VERY clean, not band to drown out the dj's announcements and we only got a little wet at the end. MY take and glad you and yours enjoyed your day - we basically did for a 30 minute ride.
ReplyDeleteWell, sounds like yet another year of the shriner's disinterest in anything more than making $$. Ossipee definatly had its faults, but they were minor, organization being the biggest. I would rather drive the 75 miles than stay local and go to such a blatent money grab. Bottom line: The shriners, while a good organization that does great things, is only concerned with making $$, they have proven this time and time again. They have little concern for the participants, or their rides. The yearly "we're gonna fix this" has gone on for 5 years, and is only said to get us to come back another year to get more of our money. So it goes, for the next couple of weeks we'll be hearing alot of "I'll Never Go To THAT Show Again" just like after the weeks right after Bonney Eagle. And like Bonney Eagle, most of those same people will be in that 45 minute line at 6:00 am at Twitchell's next July. At least Bonney Eagle makes no apologies for being all about the $$!
