Yes I was at Bonnie Eagle today, yes I said I wouldn't be. But like the plans of mice and men they are just that, the plans of mice and men. After having a major change in plans the wife and I decided to get out of Dodge and we ended up at Bonnie Eagle.
Now on with the understatement of the week, It Was A ClusterFuck. As in past years the Show fell apart when the gates opened. The downhill slide after that was faster than the Winter Olympic Bobsled Run. I agree with all who said so.
The fact that they ran out of Room should tell you that a whole lot of people came and had an idea things might be different. When they found out different is a State of Mind rather than this years attempt at a car show, most all went with the Flow and had a great day.
All the people I spoke with were happy to be out with great weather and fantastic cars with old friends and really could give a rat's ass about any $15.00 Cheap Ass Trophies. Most did come with the idea of having fun, Anybody complaining did it amongst friends or voiced it to the Organizers, which is what should be done.
Overflow of Classes or not providing enough room for the classes, proved to make some rather interesting match ups in parking like the Citreon Sj in the the same class as G.I. Joe 30Cal. Jeep or the Mercury Montero (early 60's) between 2 Tuners. Thinking anything other than hilarious shows everybody that your a $15.00 Cheap Ass Trophy whore and need counseling.
Hundreds of Cars. Great weather. Fantastic people. All well worth the 5buck entry fee. Seeing many cars that never registered showed me that I am not alone in thinking that car shows are for fun and awards are secondary. The little Vendors area provided some stuff that wasn't stupidly priced and did allow me to snag a very nice Pepsi Sign.
The Bonnie Eagle Car Show sucked as a Car Show, but I had a great day with some fine cars and good people. Thanks for making it happen.

Well Frank you are right, classes messed up, more cars than they knew what to do with and not enough help. People went about their business. Smiling and talking to friends and making new ones as they cleaned and discussed what they had done to their rides over the winter. As you pointed out there wasn’t much worry over the all mighty trophy. I spent the day with the wonderful company of my granddaughter and her friend.

Hi Frank, Yep, the show was quite a cluster. it was great to see everybody and what a turn out of Iron. just imagine what this show could be if it was organized. Nice suprize to see you and the misses. Jim & Connie
ReplyDeleteGotta hand it to you. Even though the Bonney Eagle show went like we all expected, you still managed to keep the review BALANCED. Disorganized? Absolutly. Not enough room for all entries? Definatly! But still the biggest gathering of hobby cars in the entire state! A 58 Edsel Bermuda?!? I had only seen them in books or mags until yesterday! An Amphi-Car? Only on tv until yesterday! My girlfriend is a die-hard Mustang fan- She was like a kid in a candy store in the mustang class!
ReplyDeleteIt makes me laugh when I see what the People's Directorate of Carshows is saying. Still can't forget that $15.00 hunk of plastic, can we?
I guess it's easier to just pull the old, rotting dead horse out and start the beating with renewed gusto, than to try to find positive points to pull out of an obvious and expected cluster-fuck.
Keep up the good work!
That show is always confused about what it is, is a cars show/or a big parking lot? Yesterday started as a car show, about 9:00AM the spectators figured out how to park close to the car show and get 2 people in for the price of 1. just tell the guys at the drive-in gate you have a show car. There were several hundred cars and trucks parked among the show cars that were not registerd, had their windows up and doors locked. I took extra notice of this as I was passing out my show flyers. Car Show? NO. parking lot? YES
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed myself at Bonney Eagle . I am not at any show for a trophy .I like to mingle with everyone . Alot of friends came from Massachusetts and New Hampshire as the weather was so perfect . We hadnt had many of them at all at this shwo been quite wet .Found out that Joe Hatch {Oxford Fair grounds Lions Member }is in a nursing home in Oxford Me also so his son told me .
