Hora at Kora

Kora Shrine Temple Car Show and Fly-In at Twitchell's Airport, Turner Maine. Great Organization, Great Weather, Great Venue and it could be the replacement to the once Great Bonney Eagle if the Shriners would let people who know how to run a car show run it.

It has been 3 years since my tired ass has graced the Kora Temple Car Show. 2 of those years were spent at the Atlantic Nationals in Moncton, New Brunswick (now thats a car show). Last year was spent in Biddeford with Maine Coastal Cruisers Super Cruise Weekend then to Augusta to the Toy Run.

At the first Kora Show I was chosen to be a judge, much to the chagrin of myself and a few others. During the 2nd Show, they screwed up the trophies so bad they had to feed us at the Temple and give us the pitch before giving out trophies. So I knew how bad it could get and had been.

The Shriners organization is a Class act and should not be held accountable for what has transpired in the past or present. Kora Temple is one of the oldest of it Chapters and it also should not be held accountable but it will be, because of the way they do things.

The Chairman of the Car Show should be directly judged as incompetent. He is responsible for finding the Judges that have been used this year and in past years. The Judges names should be posted in a conspicuous place for all to see and remembered, that they shall never be allowed to judge a pile of dog shit let alone a car show.

As witnessed by many and as his side of the story was told to me (by him) over the phone after the show. A top contender at any show, be it a participant vote or judged show was completely overlooked for trophy contention. Not just this year but last year also as verified by others that were asked.

When the judges were asked if that class had been completed, they replied that it had been. When asked by the contestant why his car had not been looked at by the judge, he was told that, "if I had to look at all the cars, I'd be here all night."

ISN'T THAT HIS JOB!!! He is supposed to look at all the car that He needs to judge or maybe he thought he was Ray Charles or Stevie Wonder.

Until Kora realizes that fewer patrons at there car show means fewer shekels in their coffers, then this will continue as common practice. Tell them to fix it. It ain't about the entry fee or the $15.00 Cheap Ass Trophy, its about doing the right thing.

Judging a Car Show is a task that I am not willing to partake of ever again. It is a great responsibility that few can perform correctly. Evidently the Chairman of the Show couldn't find his ass with both hands and a compass. We all know he can't find good people to be judges.

The above contestant will never be a patron of this show again. The above contestant probably will refrain from many future shows, thats how pissed off at the system he is.

Then again maybe he'd come back if the Judges were chosen from the Monkey act at Kora Shrine Circus. He probably wouldn't get a trophy, But we all would have fun watching them judge.

The Show itself was good with close to 300 cars on the field and although it looked to be a bad day in the wee hours of the AM it turned out super and warm. Seeing old friends in the sun is much better than seeing them in the rain. Bad Image sorry.

Just as we had thought, ( I don't predict) the trophy hunters were at Ossipee for there weekly fix of Cheap Ass Trophies and to tell the you truth we really didn't notice them missing until trophy time.

All in All a good Show, but Judge choosing, DJ selection, Food Quantity-Quality-Pricing all really need some overhaul or rebuilding. If the Shriners don't see the light soon this show is going in the shitter.

  1. Yeah, thats pretty bad! I even got a message on my facebook page from a friend who got a 1st and even he thought that the "judging" was absolutely horrible.
If the organizers can't handle finding competent judges they ought to just switch to participant vote- at least then we know what kind of bullshit to expect.
The other big problem I saw was our dear friend, that now infamous staple of the Maine car show, the "Choose Your Own Class" Entry system. The Knucklebusters and Yankee Cruisers seem to be the only show organizers to grasp the concept of class enforcement! I saw alot of BLATANT misuse of classes today!
It is starting to feel like screaming at a brick wall- my sugesstion: Just go to hang out and stop worrying about the trophy- If YOU are happy with your ride, that's all that matters!
