Sometimes you gotta wonder who comes up with the crap we put up with. With the Green Weenie pricks running around saying "OBAMA IS GOD", making our miserable lives even more delightful. California Dreamers trying to cram legislation up our ass that makes no sense what so ever. Then we find out how delightful E-10 is going to be once it has sat all winter.
E-10 Federally Mandated during the G. W. regime, has a shelf life similar to a bean fart, it has a problem with moisture and it separates in cold weather. OK lets give it to the Northeast and let them live with it. Unannounced by any authority by the way.
So this is how we ran it down to the best of our abilities.
Shelf life under normal temperature condition 60-90 days. In cold weather cut that by a third. Separation is a factor they still are figuring, but the know-it-alls say once separated into gas and alcohol never the twain shall meet. Moisture is a factor that seems to be overlooked by some but realize that ethanol is the ingredient of choice in dry gas and if you overload alcohol with water it becomes a cocktail served at a dinner party.
Then some talking head from Minnesota says they have been using E-10 for 10yrs. and had no ill effects, that he knows of. So far what I know is that 3 Snowmobiles have had burned pistons from running lean on bad fuel (E-10), that reps of the fuel industry recommend draining the tank in the spring if you stored your vehicle all winter. If you can find an additive ( Sta-Bil ) that is specific for Ethanol use it regularly. Then prepare your poor suffering ass for a 3% to 5% decrease in fuel mileage. If you do drain your fuel system the cost of disposal is hefty, upwards of $200.00 for 10 gallons or more at a certified recycler
The Feds want better Mileage in vehicles and less dependence on foreign oil, yet they give us E-10 which reduces mileage, cost as much to the consumer at the onset, but with additives cost more and the disposal of bad fuel even more expensive.
All this time I thought Clapton was god
